The Sound of Sucking

I know one thing after tonight's Ducks/Flames Game 7. That lonely frail "Go Flames Go" horn bleating like a tormented goat from the middle of the 2nd period on until the emptynetter is forever etched into the soundtrack of my life as the sound of sucking.

This is truly bittersweet because the Battle of Alberta would have been glorious with a Flames team as hapless as that one turned out to be.

That is all.

Yeah, it seemed kind of quiet in there after they fell behind. I was just tuning in now again through the first two periods, but I saw the interview with Jim Peplinski at the 2nd intermission. It had been 1-0 when I'd checked last, and Pepper was utterly depressed, and the way he was talking I thought that Anaheim must have popped in a couple or maybe three more to make it 4-0 or something. Jebus, it was just 2-0 Jim, cheer up a bit. :-)

Two goals in one period from the Flames must have just seemed like an impossibilty to him. It seemed like the announcers and crowd felt the same way.

How sweet must this series win be for Selanne? Against the goalie who bailed on Finland for Olympic duty to be ready for the Flames big playoff run :D And against the coach that decided Selanne was no longer a top line player when he was in San Jose. I liked Selanne's comments after the game about Beauchemin's fight with Iginla being a turning point for momentum in the series (I doubt it really was, didn't seem that way to me in game 6, but a nice dagger by Teemu there). And the comment about the next opponent, Colorado. Something along the lines of "Sakic is great, beat him and the rest falls into place." more or less like that I think. Very true, and you can say the same for ANA with Teemu himself, and S.J with Thornton methinks.

Even though he helped beat the Flames I still can't like Selanne. The guy has murdered us over the years but that does seem to have stalled since that year him and Kariya got married and moved to Colorado.

Final note: the Flames being down 2-0 is like any normal team being down 4-0.

I interpreted that the exact same way. I hadn't heard of any particular animosity between Iginla and Selanne, but Teemu definitely went out of his way to take a shot at Iggy there. I started laughing as soon as he said it.
