No. G controversy > no G controversy almost every time.

No doubt Garon has played well.

Wouldn't you say the D has also played better lately?

I don't know about that Mike. If Garon hadn't been lights out in the last two games, I'm sure that Oiler fans would have selected a D to tar and feather in each of those games.

Along the same lines, Vancouver's D became vaunted the day that Luongo showed up, methinks.

By my memory MacTavish has shown a tendency to ride the hot hand in goal. I'm not sure how Roloson will react, but he'd better come up huge vs Minny or Garon will be starting on Saturday methinks.

The thing with Garon, is that when he's stopping pucks he looks great doing it. Athletic even. I can see fans getting on a Garon bandwagon. Myself included.

With Roloson, who has obviously been a very good goalie for a long time, so it's not just luck or anything ... still, even when he's on a hot streak, like the playoff run, a lot of his saves have an Inspector Clousseau quality about them. His style is a little harder to love.

Does anyone have anything to say about Garon as a starter who gets a lot of games. I was surprised to hear him say on HNIC that he played over 60 games for LA a couple of years back, winning around half iirc. Then Crow came in with his own man.

Is he JS Aubin or a whole lot better?

There is always an element of risk with goalies where you are left wondering if/when what you are seeing is the real emergence or a temporary thing.

There are so few "sure thing" goalies -- Brodeur, Luongo . . . and an emerging number of stories of guy who "used to be third in line comes out of nowhere."

Other than the injury riddled year in LA, Garon has never had (arguably earned) the shot at the alpha dog spot. Goodness knows that must have been part of the reason he chose Edmonton (fair to decent chance that he would get a shot within his 2 year contract).

I have no idea how to objectively compare "when a goalie has consistency" but dammit, that was two games that we had stellar goaltending.

I think the season's first game vs San Jose had some famous Roli stops -- but I don't remember having seen once since. If he could have one of those, say tonight -- that would be a happy situation indeed.

Either way, how could you not go with Garon on Sat versus the Flames? If only for the "he's in their head" factor.

The Oilers appear to be doing a better job collapsing down into the the goalmouth scrum -- so that may be playing into it too.

First off, I have loved the chance to read what's been posted on this site for the last couple of weeks. Fantastic work!

Regarding our defense, I caught the Vancouver game in full and I don't think you can successfully argue that Garon had a stellar defensive performance in front of him. When you've got a guy going in on a half-breakaway in GDed overtime and the defender doesn't even pretend to recover positionally, you thank Garon for the save and move on with life. This isn't to discredit he d-corps who by my eye have indeed done a good job of keeping it simple since Rourke was summoned but there have been too many plays per game that I've seen that scream quality scoring chance for me to want to ignore the difference between Roli and Garon.

I don't know what to make of Garon's current hot streak, however. I love what I've seen from him, he looks confident, and he has made easy and difficult saves alike over his past two outings. I would love if he is a guy that just needed his "chance" and runs away with this thing but the skeptic in me says he cools off at some point over the next couple of months and Roli's play gets better. I'm still not opposed to a Roloson deal at the deadline if the situation warrants but I think you have got to take the due diligence (time) to see if Roloson reverts to his solid form. He has the track record, even through last years tumultuous season, to warrant it.

I'm a patient guy about this sort of thing but I will admit it's a fun storyline to watch! Garon has played great and is one of those tenders who looks good enough through flexibility/acrobatics when he's playing well that you can't help but cheer for him. Go Oilers!

He was great in LA, but got bumped for Cloutier. (?) He's great acquisition, and would be fine with the Oil trading Roli. Doesn't Pitssburgh need some help in net? :)

yeah Andy - he referred to that and of course we can see that politics does matter - Crawford came in and wanted his man in there.

Pittsburgh is a fit - Pouliot might also be a deal sweetener but what do the Oilers receive in return?

If you really want to spice things up, the Ducks put Bryzgalov on waivers today.

When Garon is playing well he looks amazing.

But when he is playing poorly he really looks horrible.

Play the hot tender for sure. But please please please Mr Lowe, please dont trade Rolly yet. We've had sub par goaltending on YOUR team previsously and I don't want to revisit that nightmare again.

Nothing wrong with having 2 decent goaltenders at all...

I think you nailed it with the Inspector Closseau thing, Vic. Even when Roli's good, he's just all over the place. That being said, he had a poor stretch last year but he turned it around so I think he can do it again.

But I'd have no problem rooting for garon either
