Scoring Chance App

If you plan on recording scoring chances this season, you can use this app to help you do it.

I have tested it on one pre-season match (game number 10095, EDM at VAN) and it looks to be working. If there are any problems, please let me know in the comments here. I'll check in every now and again and will try to address any problems as soon as I can.

Huge props to all the folks who've been logging scoring chances. It's great stuff, and has done more to further Internet hockey conversation than anything else out there.

Those of us that use your various scripts and this app owe you a fairly significant debt, Vic. Thanks again.

Thanks, Vic.

Many thanks.

Also, check the TV thread for a show no one's mentioned but me.

I want to preface this by thanking you for this app. But I am having problems with it while using the Devils as the primary team.

The opposing team is coming up as NJD and all the Devils player numbers are showing up under the opponents column. As well as other problems.

Echoing C.J.'s comments here except I'm getting the same issues while trying to use the Sharks as the primary team. I think it's just a simple error in the team abbreviation as both S.J and SJS are used at various intervals. Thanks.

It actually makes sense than the Devils and Sharks would present the same issue (Tampa Bay would as well) since in the primary team drop-down menu they're identified as N.J and S.J, respectively, but the script identifies them as NJD and SJS when tracking chances. I'm sure fixing it would be as simple as replacing the drop-down menu designations with NJD and SJS (and I'm assuming TBL for the Bolts but I haven't played around with it enough to know what the scoring chance abbreviation for Tampa is). Anyway, thanks again.

To echo what everyone else is saying. Thank you for this app and others you have made. The Sabres are having the same problem.

The Neutral was right I think. I changed the drop down menu names. Let me know if it's okay now.

Checked it for the Sharks and it's working beautifully. Thank you so much; this is such a valuable and incredible tool.

It is working wonderfully now for the Devils. Thanks.

Does it work now? Looks like the NHL threw some extra logos into the TOI pages for the European games. That confused my script.

Takes seconds to fix, but I have to do it on a game by game basis ... so let me know if this crops up again.

Sorry to bother you again, but I was wondering where I can access the other timeonice scripts for this season? For example, just gives me a 404. If they aren't up yet, then that's fine.

The shots1112.php and faceoffs1112.php scripts are up, as are the shift charts and head-to-head ice time sheets. I should get the other stuff up soon.

It takes quite a while before shot proxies work anyways. The relationship of scoring chances to shot proxies or faceoff zone proxies is piss poor with small samples. Looks like they'll never converge ... then sometime in mid-November they start pulling towards each other at speed. After that they pull together slowly, at the rate our mathematical models expect.

A have a theory as to why that happens, btw, it's a bit ethereal and I can't prove it, though. Plus it's a boring topic to everyone but me.

Any road, bottom line is those totals are a erratic until the first 15 miles of the season are on the odometer, So I won't rush :)

Hey Vic.

Game 20040, Calgary at Montreal. Looks like the game sheets all have some weird ass encoding or something, so accented character shows as garbage and the scoring chance script can't make head or tails of who is actually on-ice for a give chance.

This is my URL, if you want to test it. Have fun!

It's the bilingual score sheets that trick my simple scripts. The NHL seems to switch the format of these things every year.

Should just be a five or ten minute fix. I'll let you know when I have it done.

Is the equivalent of this script "" up for the current year? Thanks for all you do for hockey.

I'll get that up soon. Early in the season it doesn't matter too much, so I never feel rushed :)

I should pass along my thanks for the app too. It's very enlightening, and helpful.

I posted this issue in the most recent post because I didn't see this thread...but it looks like game 20094 Dallas @ Anaheim has some funky data. 5 players minutes are extended to the 84 minute marking, messing the outputs from the app up.

Have you made any progress on this year's playershots script? Just wondering as I love using your site. Thanks in advance for everything.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am really looking forward to that kind of app to help me with the price per head free trial.
